Svarta Fåret’s Ulrika is a classic 100% superwash wool yarn. This well-regarded yarn is soft, warming, and suitable for garments for both adults and children.

Here is a step-by-step guide for blocking superwash wool:

1. Preparation and Soaking
  • Fill a basin with lukewarm water (not hot, as it can shock the fibers) and add a small amount of wool wash.
  • Gently submerge the garment and let it soak for 15-30 minutes until thoroughly wet.

2. Drying (Important Step)
  • Never wring out superwash wool, as it can be permanently deformed.
  • Lift the garment with both hands and gently squeeze out most of the water.
  • Roll the garment in a dry terry towel (like a Swiss roll) and press or step on the roll to absorb moisture. You might need to do this twice with a new, dry towel if the garment is very wet.

3. Blocking (Shaping)
  • Lay the garment on a blocking mat or a clean, dry towel.
  • Shape the garment to the measurements given in your pattern. Since superwash often "grows," you should not stretch it too much, but rather shape it lightly.
  • If necessary, pin the edges, especially for lace knitting.

4. Drying
  • Let the garment air dry completely.
  • For hats and socks, use blockers (a mold) to maintain their shape.

Tips for Superwash Wool:
  • Superwash can often feel "slippery" and stretch easily, which is why many prefer to block it more lightly.
  • If the garment has become too large, you can gently tumble dry it on low heat (if the yarn allows it) to restore its shape, but be careful.
