Pattern

The Maja cardigan is designed exclusively for Järbo and is part of a knit-along in autumn 2025.

Maja is a short, modern cardigan with a patterned yoke, like traditional Icelandic sweaters. As with many Icelandic sweaters, part of the yoke pattern is repeated at the bottom of the sleeves, but on this model, the pattern is extra long. The body and sleeves are knitted in the round separately and then joined on a long circular needle to knit the yoke with patterns and decreases. The neckline is finished with a few short rows to slightly raise the back. The cardigan is steeked, and stitches are picked up for the front bands. The cardigan is designed by Hélène Magnússon, an Icelandic/French designer and author who organizes popular hiking and knitting trips in Iceland. (www.icelandicknitter.com).
